A recent Forbes article caught my attention, as the article went on to speculate the possibility of a Pokemon game coming to the Nintendo Switch soon.

These rumours started to appear after a tantalising job position was posted via Game Freak’s job board. The position was looking for those willing to work on an RPG of ‘global-scale’ and assured job seekers that it was a name that everyone knew.
We’ll have you work on the production an RPG game that is popular on a global scale.
Platform will be console.
It’s a title that just about anyone knows, a proposal that could be your future career.
– Game Freak
Thus, given Pokemon’s sudden rise in popularity and untouchable levels of brand recognition due to the highly popular Pokemon app: Pokemon Go, fans went on to speculate that this job listing was a direct reference to the Pokemon franchise.
While it’s safe to assume the Nintendo Switch will eventually see a Pokemon title, given as Nintendo are the publishers and Game Freak the developers of the franchise, some believe it is rather useless to speculate at this point given the lack of information around Nintendo’s new venture.
Nintendo is a well-known global company and possesses many loved titles and franchises under its belt which are just as recognisable as the Pokemon franchise. However, the idea of a new Pokemon title is exciting given that Pokemon Sun and Moon only launched 4 months go.
But, is it too soon for a new Pokemon title?
In my opinion (as a fan of the Pokemon franchise) nothing is too soon for a new Pokemon title, however looking at Nintendo’s new venture through a business perspective opinions may differ. Pokemon Sun and Moon were only just released 4 months ago, given that, it’s still a relatively new game to come to the Nintendo 3DS. A new Pokemon title is undoubtedly going to interrupt the sales of the new Sun and Moon title.
Those who love Pokemon Sun and Moon, and want to see it become a success worry not! As if rumours are true, game development has not yet taken off and developing a (good) title takes time, money and a lot of work. Therefore, by the time this supposed new Pokemon title is launched, Pokemon Sun and Moon will not be categorised as a recent title to the franchise and should have reaped its successes.
I for one am excited at the aspect of a new Pokemon title. Are you? Or do you believe it is still too early to speculate?
